ABOUT THE SPITTLE FAMILY

The Spittle family has been involved in trapping for nearly 60 years. It all began along the Juniata River when Mike and his father trapped together. From running trap lines before school in high school to introducing his own son, Andy, to the tradition more than 35 years ago, trapping has remained a family way of life.

Mike’s commitment to the sport expanded in the early 1990s when he became active in District 11 of the Pennsylvania Trappers Association (PTA). Over the years, he has served as a fur buyer, supply dealer, secretary/treasurer, and now Vice President East of the PTA. His experience spans both local and out-of-state trapping in West Virginia and North Carolina.

Andy carried on the tradition as a full-time professional wildlife control trapper for 18 years, actively serving in the PTA and inspiring his son, Luke, to join the family trap line. Today, Luke plays a vital role in both the family’s trapping efforts and educational outreach at state rendezvous events.

Together, the Spittles have led countless youth field days, trapper training schools, and educational seminars, sharing their knowledge with the next generation. For them, passing on the values and skills of trapping is even more rewarding than practicing it.
